ALS Radon & Environmental completed a complete radon mitigation system replacement in Kalamazoo, MI. The old system was not working properly as it was installed incorrectly by another company. Thin wall pipe was hanging outside the home and the extraction point was never dug out to create an air pocket for the radon fan to remove radon gas. The old radon fan was also not rated for the basement size and soil at this property. ALS Radon & Environmental removed the entire radon system and installed a new radon system to NRPP standards. New schedule 40 piping was installed and 10 gallons of soil was removed from the extraction point. A new gx3 radon fan was properly installed with the tight soil and large basement size.
This is an example of a dirt floor crawlspace. The before photo shows the dirt floor which is a main entry point for the radon gas. The second is the after photo after we installed drainage matting and 20 MIL Clean Space vapor barrier. This is sealed and connected to the radon system to create negative pressure under the barrier safely venting the radon gas outside of the home.
Sometimes when an exterior fan is needed our clients would like a better clean-cut look. In these circumstances our exterior aesthetic package comes into play. Our team installs a cover over the fan and runs the pipe through the soffit and vented through the roof. This helps blend the system with the house and gives it a better look than just a fan and wrapped around the gutter.
